Interior Architecture Design III

PROJECT01: "Review, Re-CHARGE, Re-connect

Project 01(a) : Research: Site Context + Findings

Scenario:

Site context and building analysis is a vital step in the design process. It involves the evaluation of an existing site in relation to the development program, environmental impact, impacts on the community and adjacent properties, project budget, and schedule. The site analysis identifies environmental, program, and development constraints and opportunities. A well-executed site analysis forms the essential foundation for a cost-effective, environmentally sensitive, and rational approach to project development. The physical, cultural, and regulatory characteristics of the site are initially explored. Some of these factors can be assessed by collecting and analyzing information; others are best addressed by walking the site and traversing its environs.

Task:

What do you see? ‘Review it’ The site is both a limitation to design and provider of incredible opportunities. Every site has its own physical attributes that comprised of memories and traces of its surroundings. The neighboring buildings, materials used, form, height and other physical characteristic will affect and influence the design later on. In short, to understand your site is to find 'clues' that inform your design ideas. All these must be reflected from your study that will be in-group.

Site:

‘The Row’, Jalan Doraisamy

GROUP 1 : PHYSICAL STUDIES

Site context, sun path, glare, reflections, shadows, natural ventilation, noise (acoustic), condition, and surrounding area/neighbouring premises, public transport, nearby buildings, access route - road network, traffic flow, pedestrian flow, view outward, vegetation, surrounding structures / buildings – types, characteristics, styles, etc.

GROUP 2 : ART + CULTURE

Social composition, income level, night life, lunch rush hour, age group, user/population group/profiling, behavioural patterns, habits, preferences, user types / lifestyle, occupations, competitor, facilities, etc.

GROUP 3 : BUILDING ANALYSIS + INTERIOR

Existing condition of interior elements consists of wall, floor, ceiling, door, window, staircase, roof, openings, built-in furniture, spatial function and layout analysis, natural ventilation, etc.

GROUP 4 : SITE MEASUREMENT & DRAWINGS

Measured drawing exercise on the site - include plans, sections and elevations. All structural members are must include the beam, column, slab, stairs, etc.

GROUP 5 : SITE MODEL & SPACE MODEL

The detailed model of the existing site within 2km radius as well as detail space model in an appropriate scale.

For this assignment, we are grouped into a total of five groups, one group consists of seven members, and im honoured and glad to work with Lim Lyi Cyia who is our group leader, Lee Ning, Ong Kay Mun, Heidi Wong Hoi Yean, Yaw Xin Qi and Herbert Suntai Ak Roger Moore. We are group1 and we're doing the topic of PHYSICAL STUDIES. Below are our works :

In this assignment, I've learnt a lot, in terms of communications, observation, and other skills. We are requested to go site visit to The Row and we finally done our works after three times of site visit. Me and Xin Qi were tasked to do researches on the site context, access route including traffic flow, pedestrian flow, road network, view outward, public transport, acoustic noises, nearby buildings and the condition of them. During our working period, we had faced alot of problems in different aspects such as model building, the support of the model which is in A1 size, ventilation part and also the technical problems such as lightings ( street light ) and audio (noises that we've recorded) ... But we managed to overcome the obstacles by brainstorming and solving the problems together. I am absolutely glad to work with my team. :)
