Interior Architecture Design II

Project 1: Collapsible Project

For this project, we are required to design a dual-function furniture that transforms into a compactable unit which can be stored in a small space when required. The unit must be easy to pull apart or be collapsible and include a moving function that should be in between 3’ x 3’(feet) perimeter. Project considerations also include size, aesthetics, construction, shape, movement and ergonomic and user- friendly. Materials that are allowed in this project are corrugated board, wood pallets, frames or plywood.

For this project, we are to work in a group consists of two students, I am glad to have Lee Ning to be my groupmate for this project. Our inspiration comes from a fish which inspired our main structure of the furniture. We continued to work on the design ideation and the functions. The photos below are our pin up session for this project.

Project 1 Final Outcome

After the crit session, we received some great advices and helpful directions from our lecturers. We move forward to our one-to-one sized furniture making. As it is our first time doing wood works in a carpentry workshop, we learnt alot! We started with nothing and ended with a real furniture, it is really a good experience to be recalled. We learnt alot about the joint works, supports...

Our greatest challenges in the furniture making process are probably the restriction of carpentry workshop using time limitation and the lack of wood joint works knowledges. We faced alot of problems and challenges in this project, we even dissemble every pieces of the furniture In the halfway of process because of the technical and dimension problems. But we managed to solve the problems in time given and fix the furniture piece. It is a great experience to work with a new material which is wood! Photos below are the final outcome of projet1.
